These include dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins, the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene, and finally CO2 reforming of hydrocarbon feedstock (i.e., methane) and alcohols. Aspects on the various reaction pathways are also highlighted. The literature on the role of promoters and catalyst development is critically evaluated. Most of the reactions discussed in this review are exploited in industries and related to on-going processes, thus providing extensive data from literature. However, some reactions, such as CO2 reforming of ethanol and glycerol, which have not reached industrial scale, are also reviewed owing to their great potential in terms of sustainability, which is essential as energy for the future. This review further illustrates the building-up of knowledge that shows the role of support and catalysts for each reaction and the underlying linkage between certain catalysts, which can be adapted for the multiple CO2-related reactions.

Evaluating the optimum molar ratio of Mn2+/Co2+ and mass percent of Al2O3 for preparing a catalyst for secondary alcohol oxidation

Alcohol oxidation is an important reaction in organic syntheses. Some of these reactions must beunder difficult conditions in respect of high temperature and pressure. In many cases, reactions areconducted by environmentally in appropriate solutions. In this study, preparing an effectivenanocatalyst and estimating the optimum provisions of its production processes are assessed. Twomajor and cru...

Efficient Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Dihydropyrimidinones and Thiocyanation of Aromatic Compounds Using 1,1,2,2-Tetrahydroperoxy-1,2-diphenylethane as the Oxidant

A new, efficient and mild approach for the oxidative dehydrogenation of dihydropyrimidinones and thiocyanation of aromatic compounds using 1,1,2,2-tetrahydroperoxy-1,2-diphenylethane (THPDPE) as a terminal oxidant was developed. Initially, various substrates bearing different electron-donating and electron-releasing functionalities were synthesized and next under the optimized reaction conditio...

REACTORS, KINETICS, AND CATALYSIS Quantifying Rate Enhancements for Acid Catalysis in CO2-Enriched High-Temperature Water

Thermodynamic calculations revealed that 10 to 100-fold increases in reaction rate are obtainable with added CO2 (0.1–1 MPa) for an acid-catalyzed reaction in hightemperature liquid water (HTW) that is first order in H concentration. These calculations suggest that CO2 is most effective as a rate-enhancing additive in HTW at lower temperatures (150–2008C). When compared with increased temperatu...

Estimation of UNIQUAC-NRF Model Parameters for NH3-CO2-H2O System

Vapor-liquid equilibrium in NH3-CO2-H2O system at high pressures has been studied. The UNIQUAC-NRF model for this system was extended by using the Goppert 4 maurer reported datas. Since the system contains molecules and ionic species the binary interaction parameters considered, where those are of molecule-molecule, molecule-ion and ion-ion types. These interaction parameters are taken as c...

Role Of CO2 As a Soft Oxidant For Dehydrogenation of Ethylbenzene to Styrene over a High-Surface-Area Ceria Catalyst

Catalytic performance and the nature of surface adsorbates were investigated for high-surface-area ceria during the ethylbenzene oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) reaction using CO2 as a soft oxidant. The high surface area ceria material was synthesized using a template-assisted method. The interactions among ethylbenzene, styrene, and CO2 on the surface of ceria and the role of CO2 for the ethyl...
